My family had a grand time playing Emerald Expedition for my youngest daughter’s 36th birthday! I chose it bc it only required 8 characters, and I had 9 guests – 3 of which are kiddos who don’t read yet. I also liked the jungle theme, as it’s a steamy 105° in August. At first I had trouble printing the materials (I’m 72 and not a techie), but eventually figured it out. After download, I had to right click and choose “open with” and choose Microsoft Edge. Then I could print just fine! I used white card stock and a scrapbooking paper cutter to cut the cards apart. The designs and colors on the materials are attractive, and very professional looking! I bought 9×12 clasp envelopes and wrote character names and stuffed them.
I made do-ahead food; pulled pork sliders, pineapple coleslaw, and fruit salad. This freed me to have fun with the family, not the kitchen! I refrained from reading the Round 2 cards, so that it would stay a mystery to me. From online I bought cheap safari hats, I gave a bandana to each player, and provided a pen and pad, which kept the little ones busy (along with a magnifying glass!).
Everyone had a great time! It was really fun, and a refreshing change from just milling around for the party. We had time to eat and visit, then started the game. The 11 yo was thrilled to be included with the adults, and did a fabulous job in his part! My two daughters in attendance had both been in theater during high school, so they hammed it up! Their husbands each did a great job with their part, and the kids liked seeing their parents dressed different and playing pretend. It made for a joyous day for me, to see everyone laughing together and having fun! I’m planning to do another mystery game from Megan for Christmas, when my other daughter and family can participate also.
I highly recommend this for an interactive time together, which EVERYONE enjoyed!
